September 7th: the Duke of Rothesay and
his wife Camilla opened the newly restored Tea Rooms originally dating back to
1903, designed by Charles Rennie Mackintosh, whose School of Art just a few hundred
yards along the road was so tragically destroyed by fire earlier this year. The Royal
Conservatoire of Scotland is itself only a minute's walk away. |
The Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, as it was
called when I was a student there n 1960, just a couple of minutes' walk down Buchanan
Street, and facing St George's Tron Church in what used to be St George's Place, for many
years now Mandela Place. |
